Helping Teachers Learn
MECU, in partnership with the University of Montana, is giving back to the educators of Missoula County. The Orville Getz Scholarship is given annually to a teacher pursuing a masters or advanced administration degree. Preference is given to MECU members and employees of Victor Schools.
Orville Getz
Orville Getz passed away in 2011 following his retirement as superintendent of the Victor School District in Victor, Montana. He was very dedicated to lifelong learning and the success of credit unions, which led him to serve on the Board of Directors for the Montana Educators' Credit Union (MECU) for 10 years, including nine years as Chairman of the Board. Because so much of his career was focused on supporting up-and-coming teachers, an endowed scholarship of $2,000 took hold as an appropriate way to honor our former colleague, friend, and leader.
